THE FOLLOWING ARE RULINGS FROM THE MARSHALLS GUIDE WHICH RELATE TO GENERAL PLAY.

Armour
Armour may not be exchanged between characters!
THIS IS MAINLY TO SIMPLY BATTLEBAORDING. The IC "explanation" is that armour needs to be properly fitted to be effective...
This also means that armour cannot be switched between locations (switching left and right bracers/greaves, turning round a suit of chainmail, etc.).
(An armourer is able to 'fit' armour so it may be exchanged between characters. This is equivalent to repairing 1pt of said armour (inc cost and repair points) per location).
(In theory this means any found armour will need fitting before it can be used).

In all cases the ref will use discretion as to how strictly this is enforced.

Rest Periods / Warrior Ability Re-sets.
Unless the ref dictates otherwise all characters start an event on full health and power, however they are considered to have used all rest periods and (if relevant) their warrior re-set for that day.
Rest Periods re-set at 6am each morning of an event. This means that between 6am one day and 6am the following day a character is able to take their full allotment of rest periods.
Warrior abilities with daily uses (Dexterity, Woad, Predict Adversity etc.) re-set once each day (between 6am to 6am). Abilities can only be re-set during a rest period (characters with more than one rest period may choose which one they wish to re-set their abilities).

An enchanter must study their spell book during each rest period in order to be able to cast from memory (casual flick through the spell book is sufficient). If unable to do so an enchanter is only able to cast by reading from the written enchantment.
(In the case of lost spell books an enchanter who is unable to replace some or all of their spells by the final battleboard of an event is considered to have forgotten/lost those spells and will need to relearn them).

Learning Enchantments
Once an enchantment is copied/acquired a rest period must be taken for the spell to be understood sufficiently enough to cast, OR a tutor and the pupil can simultaneously cast the enchantment and it is then instantly learnt.

Spell Books
Spell book is the term used to describe the bound collection of enchanter scrolls an enchanter owns. As with enchanter scrolls they are not powered. Some spell books exist with additional properties (water proof, fire proof). Such properties are attributed to the bindings into which the enchantments are put not the scrolls themselves. An enchanter may have any number of spell books. They simply need to create duplicate scroll for the individual enchantments they which to put in each new book. Individual enchantments can be moved between books if required.

Restricted Enchantments
These enchantments are considered to be one level higher in all respects other than casting cost (a 1st level restricted enchantment costs as much to learn as a 2nd level enchantment, a character would need to be second level to teach it, a character would have to be 2nd level to cast it).
Mystics do gain access to any restricted rites on their spell list. They gain 1st level restricted rites at 2nd level, 2nd level restricted rites a 3rd level and so on.

Mystic Dedication
In addition to their primary (required) dedication time a mystic can choose to dedicate at the end of a rest period, but may only take 1st level rites when doing so. All other restrictions for dedication apply (retention of previously dedicated rites, total power dedicated etc.).

Casting Spells (including all rites and spell innates)
• If the caster is interrupted (e.g. struck) then the spell fails, but the power(/TBL) is not lost. Any strike will disrupt casting, even if it does not harm the caster.
• A character cannot cast spells if their hands are bound or restrained.
• A character may not choose to end spell duration ahead of time, unless specifically allowed in the spell description.
• Touch spells (heart squeeze, wither, paralysis, etc.) remain active for 10 seconds after casting. If they are not used in that time then the effect fails (the power is lost).
• If a touch attack is avoided (i.e. dodged) then the spell is still considered to have been used.
No two enchantments or rites of the same name maybe cast on the same target at the same time. This is also true of warrior abilities with the same name as spells (e.g. Woad) and vice versa.
(• Mystics must display their holy symbol when casting).

Warrior Spell Casters
Warriors or Mystics who have the ability Literacy can choose to become enchantment casters.
In order to do so they must permanently sacrifice one TBL (representing long hours closeted away in a musty room learning the arts). The skill must be taught to the character by someone who can already cast spells and who has the ability Teach Realms. There is a financial cost equivalent to buying a 1st level secondary warrior ability.
• Warrior spell casters may only ever cast 1st level enchantments.
• Warriors must also read directly from the spell scroll when casting (they cannot cast by reciting the vocal from memory).
• Warrior spell casters must abide by all the limitations and conditions of enchanters when casting (vocal, component, limited metal, etc.).

Warriors are never considered to be enchanters for any beneficial (or detrimental) effect. (I.e. they may not use magic items limited to enchanters. They may not create spell scrolls* or use Focus').

(* Warrior Spell casters with the "Teach Realm" ability may create scrolls (same cost / limitations as per enchanters)).

Downtime (synopsis)
There is no formal downtime for the Realms system.
Once a character has booked onto an event they are able to perform a limited amount of preparation at the refs digression.
They may perform two out of the three activities listed below. Some characters may not be able to perform some or all or the activities. A character may not perform the same activity twice during preparation (i.e. Training).

1) Learning - A character may learn one 'thing'. This includes Realm levels, secondary abilities, enchantments, racial innates, and alchemical recipes. This applies even if learning a realm/skill from a realm glyph.

2) Making - Certain abilities allow for the manufacture of 'goods' (alchemical skills, armouring skills, weapon making skills. A character is allowed to make up to their daily allowance for each such skill they have as part of "preparation".
Certain enchantments/rites are able to create long duration effects (Permanency, Alarm, Witch Ward, etc.). Doing so counts as, "Making" preparation.

3) Research - A character may attempt to investigate an aspect of the forthcoming game or a long term plot. Certain abilities / enchantments may be used during investigation (Predict Adversity, Commune, etc.); a character may use no more than their daily allowance of power (excluding all rest periods) / abilities as part of such investigation.
Not all scenarios or refs will allow this option.

In addition a character may attempt to purchase goods and services (potions, armour repair, etc.). The only limitations being the amount of cash available to spend and availability of the goods or services.

Character may trade amongst themselves. Both parties need to contact a ref in order for any trade to take place.

Teaching Glyphs

(Amendment for Marshalls Guide and Adventures Guide Appendix)

Teaching Glyphs may be used to learn secondary abilities (available in the glyphs realm) at 1 level below the level of the Glyph.

Extendable durations
Amendment for the Grand Grimoire

(To clarify, each increment of duration extension beyond the duration listed for the spell (i.e. > 1 day > 1 week > 1 month > 1 year > 10 years > 100 years > etc.) requires a doubling of the power used starting at the normal power cost of the spell.
e.g. A 1st level spell would cost: 2 power = 1 day > 4 pow = 1 week > 8 pow = month > etc.
A 3rd level spell would cost: 6 power = one week > 12 pow = 1 month > 24 pow = 1 year > etc..

This applies to the following spells.
